June 19, 2010: The National Gem and Jewellery Authority recently revealed that gold can be produced by further filtering black sand. “We disclosed that many valuable metals exist in the sand that is removed from gem mines. We had difficulties in filtering and identifying these metals as we did not have the necessary equipment in the country. But one of our own entrepreneurs has invented this machine.” said the Chairman of National Gem and Jewelllery Authority Anil Koswatte. Meanwhile, Ananda Samarathunga, the inventor of the machine which filters gold from the black sand, noted that he had found this while using the machine to sift black sand for gems. “While using the machine to sift black sand for gems, I saw it being cleaned and filtered. So I invented a machine to do this. After separating the black sand, I noted that there are traces of gold in it. Now we have the ability to separate the gold from It,” said Samarathunga. According to the Authority, there is a possibility of producing gold locally at a cost 40 per cent chapter than importing it. It has already been established that the gold processed in this manner is 23.35 carrot pure gold. Meanwhile, the National Gem and Jewellery Authority noted that many other valuable metals including Titanium and Uranium could be produced in the same manner. According to the Chairman of the Authority, a tonne of black sand can be sold at a price of around US $ 10000 overseas.

I recently sold a tin that contained candies, which I bought about a month ago.
