Sittin in a bar in Albequerque NM and a stranger walks up and says, "Heard ya' talkin bout gold". "If you want alot of gold, it's sittin on the bottom of the Salt River southwest of Phoenix". Said he used to dive there and operate a dredge. I asked him where exactly ? and he said, "Close to the Casino". Now i've never been to Phoenix or the Salt River and i'm not inclined to take a drinker seriously.. but something about the guy struck me like he was tellin the truth. Gold right there outside the city limits of Phoenix ? Dredging that close to a city ? Sounds unlikely, but like i said his tone sounded pretty genuine. Anybody here ever found anything on the Salt River other than water ? Know anything about this area ? I'm still curious to this day and that was two years ago.

Salt River is part of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, so no minerals may be taken from the river nor the riparian areas.

LOL... Only thing I ever got at the Salt River was a good buzz and a bad sunburn while tubing. Of course that was UPSTREAM from town so the water was clean.

Probably just another one of those tales you hear. Like i said, i don't generally put much stock in anything i hear in a bar room. Had to check his story out though. Larry seemed real excited about the Salt River. (already made plans, I'll be leaving for the Bradshaws Mts. in two weeks). Looks like it's still gonna be pretty chilly there at night. Low to mid thirties. Won't be the first time i froze my butt off to get an early start on the season. Just hope there's no snow and hail to contend with.

Well I'm down on the border near Douglas Catfish and while out getting some test samples from our wash the other day we got some hail from that last front that came through. We're at 4600 Ft though so it is a lot cooler here than in say Tucson. Going out today to get more samples from further up the wash and will be looking for buried stream-beds intersecting the wash to see if that's where the gold is coming from.
