I found this in my pan the other day and it caught my eye. I don't think it's lead because all the lead i find is a brighter grey and almost perfectly round. This is pretty flat on one side and just odd shaped. I want to say maybe mercury but i have never seen it in solid form. Thanks for your help in advance.Attached Thumbnails Reply With Quote Yesterday 03:34 PM # ADSAds

If its lead or mercury heat will tell - if its platinum it'll take the heat unless you have a plasma cutter!Reply With Quote Yesterday, 08:56 PM#6Oldyoungtimer Feb 2013119 22 times

I am wondering how heavy is it? Platinum is one of the few elements with a higher specific gravity than gold. Perhaps could be gold covered with Magnanese, graphite, or who knows what. If you have some mild acid, or perhaps scratch test. Best of luck.

Better do it outside due to possible merc fumes and stand upwind and hold your breath - if its merc it'll vaporize within a minute or so.

Hmm, a mystery! Does not look like mercury coated as it is solid black at least as compared to the dime. Not magnetic, how about rubbing it on 600 grit sand paper, what does the bottom look like after the rub? Still black?. Check the web for info on platinum, I think it is usually grey in color. Hope it is P!!..............63bkpkr
